Terms of Use

Last updated: August 30, 2026

The short version

Riffed helps you tailor your resume, draft cover letters, and work out what to say about a layoff. Use it for your own job search. Everything you put in stays yours, and you can export it any time, free, whether or not you ever pay us. We don’t give legal, financial, or medical advice, and we don’t invent things about your career. If we ever stop being useful to you, leaving is one click and we don’t hold your work hostage.

Who you're dealing with

Riffed is operated from the United States and reachable at hello@riffed.io. These terms are the agreement between you and us for use of riffed.io and the Riffed application. By creating an account you’re agreeing to them.

Your account

You need an account to use most of Riffed, and while we’re in private beta you need an invitation or a claim link. Keep your sign-in details to yourself — you’re responsible for what happens under your account. One account per person. Tell us at hello@riffed.io if you think someone else has got into it.

What Riffed is not

This is the most important section on the page, so it isn’t buried at the bottom.

  • Not legal advice. Our severance glossary and layoff resources explain terms and point you at official sources. They are not a lawyer reading your agreement. Before you sign anything, talk to someone qualified.
  • Not financial advice. The runway calculator does arithmetic with numbers you type. It doesn’t know your situation and it isn’t a financial plan.
  • Not mental-health care. Some of what we write is about how a long search feels. It is not therapy and it is not a crisis service. If you’re struggling, please reach out to a qualified professional or a trusted person in your life.
  • Not a promise of a job. Nobody can promise that, and we don’t.

What you put in, and what we generate

  • Your content stays yours. Your resume, your notes, your worksheets, the drafts you write. You keep ownership. You give us permission to store and process it only so far as we need to in order to run the product for you.
  • We won’t invent your history. Riffed reframes experience you actually have. It does not add employers, titles, dates, metrics, or skills you didn’t give it. Where a figure can’t be traced back to something you told us, we flag it rather than quietly using it.
  • Check what you send. Drafts come from an AI model and can be wrong or awkward. You are the one applying for the job, so read anything before it goes out. What you send is your responsibility.
  • Export is free, permanently. Whatever happens to your plan — expired, cancelled, never paid at all — you can still open, read and export everything you made. We never delete your work to make you pay.

Paying, and not paying

  • Free accounts have monthly limits on a few things, shown to you at the moment they apply and never as a running counter. A paid subscription removes them.
  • Subscriptions renew until you stop them, and stopping is one click from your account page. If you land a job, tell us and we’ll stop the billing — you keep the time you already paid for until it runs out. You should not have to remember to cancel.
  • Gifts and employer seats are one-off purchases, not subscriptions. Each is a claim link, valid 90 days, usable once. If a link is never claimed, email us and we’ll refund it.
  • Time stacks. If someone gives you a gift while you already have paid time, the new time is added to what you have rather than replacing it.
  • Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.

If someone bought Riffed for you

Whoever paid — a friend, or an employer buying seats for people they’ve laid off — can see how many of their links were claimed. That is the whole of what they can see. They are not told who claimed one, whether you used Riffed, what you wrote in it, or whether you found work, and there is no report they can ask us for. This isn’t a setting we could change our minds about: nothing is built that could tell them.

Using it fairly

Use Riffed for your own job search. Please don’t resell it, share one account around, try to break or overload it, scrape it, use it to impersonate someone, or use it to write things intended to deceive an employer about who you are or what you’ve done. We may suspend an account doing any of that. There are automatic limits in place to stop one account overloading the service; they are set far above anything a real job search reaches.

Leaving

You can stop using Riffed whenever you like, and you can ask us to delete your account and everything in it by emailing hello@riffed.io. Export first if you want to keep anything — deletion is meant to be real. We may close an account that breaks the section above, or if we ever have to shut the service down, in which case we’ll give you notice and time to get your work out.

The legal bit

Riffed is provided as it is. We work hard to keep it accurate and available, but we can’t promise it will always be up, error-free, or right about everything — particularly anything generated by an AI model, and particularly benefit rules, which vary by state and change. To the extent the law allows, we’re not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits anything that can’t legally be limited.

Changes

We’ll update these terms as the product changes, and the date at the top always tells you when. If a change materially affects you, we’ll say so rather than quietly reposting the page.

Questions about any of this? Email hello@riffed.io and a person will answer.
